I can’t think of a better way to drop over half a million bones than on an authentic prop used in the filming of an Original Trilogy Star Wars movie. Apparently someone else shares those same feelings as one of the DL-44 blaster props used by Harrison Ford during the production of Return of the Jedi has fetched $550,000 at an auction that was recently conducted in New York.
The blaster was predicted to sell for over $500,000 – mission accomplished.
A “blaster” used by Harrison Ford’s character Han Solo in the film Return of the Jedi has sold at auction in New York for $550,000 (£415,000).
The weapon, made mostly of wood, had previously spent more than 30 years in the possession of the film’s art director James Schoppe.
It sold for more than a lightsaber used by Mark Hamill in the first two Star Wars films, which fetched $450,000.
Mr Schoppe was nominated for an Oscar for his work on the film.
In addition to Han’s DL-44 blaster, Schoppe had an axe that was used by one of the Ewoks and another blaster up for auction. The axe sold for over $11,000 and the other blaster went for over $90,000.
According to the article, the most a Star Wars screen-used prop/item has sold for at auction was $2.76 million for an R2-D2 unit that was auctioned off in Los Angeles last year.
