Hosted by Warwick Davis, the final of Empire’s Ultimate Star Wars Challenge was conducted on the last day of Celebration Europe and came after 3 difficult online quizzes covering the Prequels, Sequels and the Star Wars universe. The 5 finalists, Thessa van Aerde, Craig Lowrey, Jan Van den Abeele, Robert Wardell and Becks Smith, each wielding a lightsaber, were introduced to the audience and asked for their specialist subject. Unsurprisingly most lumped for ‘The Classic Trilogy’, although Jan strangely opted for ‘Ewok Recipes’!
The final comprised of 5 rounds (Characters, The Sound of Star Wars, Races & Places, Behind the Scenes & The Video Round), before the final head-to-head to decide who would be crowned the biggest Star Wars fan in Europe!
In every round, each finalist was first asked their own question, before entering into a free-for-all section, which was where the lightsabers came into play. Whoever raised their lightsaber first was given the opportunity to answer.
In between the rounds, questions were thrown out to the audience with each winner receiving a goodie-bag.
After the first 5 rounds, 3 of the contestants were eliminated, leaving just the ladies, Thessa and Becks to duke it out for the title!
Sadly, there could be only one winner and it was Thessa who was to triumph. Congratulations to all of the finalists, especially to Thessa for proving that Star Wars is not just for boys!
