The Sun bring news of an exciting auction that is happening in London, a sale which is hoped will raise over £20,000.
The special shortened version of the “laser sword” was used for the fight sequences in the 1999 film in which McGregor played young Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi. The 22.5in-long saber has a painted resin handle with gold and red knobs and a green tube — or blade. After the filming, the lightsaber was given to a member of the set who is now selling it.
Such props from the Star Wars films rarely come on to the market and fans are said to be fighting each other to get their hands on it.
Stephanie Connell, from Bonhams, which is selling the lightsaber, said:
“These rarely come up for sale. This one was retained by someone on the set and it is a shortened version made for the fight sequences. The longer versions would have been too large. It has a green blade, but this was made blue for the release of the film. Stars Wars first hit the cinema screens in 1977 and every generation watches them and of course there are very serious fans. They love to own anything from the films and a lightsaber is one of the most iconic items you can find.”
The auction takes place on December 15.
