We continue our Holiday Gift Guide for 2020 with a look at three Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments.
Since 1996, Hallmark Star Wars ornaments have graced Christmas trees and decorated festive scenes all over the galaxy, and each year new ornaments are added to entertain, commemorate new media, or celebrate an anniversary. Whilst lots of things had to change in 2020, fortunately, the release of new Hallmark Star Wars ornaments was not one of them!
Hallmark has sent us three ornaments to look at, including a sound and motion Jedi Master Yoda released to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, an R2-D2 Christmas Tree Photo Holder and a LEGO Star Wars Han Solo. All three of these ornaments are dated 2020.
Let us start with the 2.46 inch tall LEGO Star Wars Han Solo Keepsake ornament, which depicts Han wearing his fatigues from A New Hope. As a huge LEGO Star Wars fan, I really like this representation of the Han minifigure, and it will go well with Chewbacca that was also released easier this year. This is not the first LEGO Star Wars Hallmark ornament; it follows Darth Vader in 2011, Imperial Stormtrooper in 2012, Yoda in 2013, Boba Fett in 2014, C-3PO in 2019, and R2-D2 in 2019. Hallmark has done a great job of making this an ornament, and I hope they continue the range, and don’t decide to take a break with LEGO Star Wars the way they did between 2015 and 2018.
Next up is the R2-D2 Christmas Tree Photo Holder standing 4 inches high. This simple but effective ornament features a removeable back, which allows you to choose which photo you want to hang on your tree. The painting of R2 is superb, and I especially like the way the dome has been painted and the detailing on the legs of the droid.
Finally, we get Jedi Master Yoda, standing 4.6 inches high and featuring sound and motion. Yoda was first created as an ornament in 1997 and since then has been depicted in more than 10 ornaments, some alongside Luke Skywalker during his training on Dagobah. This version of the diminutive Jedi Master features a movable mouth with the ability to say a variety of phrases taken directly from the films.
The base of the ornament can be unscrewed in order to fit three AAA batteries (not included). We were very impressed with this ornament and you can see it working in the video below.
Each year I am impressed at the level of detail put into these ornaments, and even if you do not celebrate Christmas, these would look great on a mantle or shelf all year round. Head to Hallmark to get some ornaments for your own holiday display, or as the perfect gift for other fans.
Thanks to Hallmark for sending this items. The opinions expressed in this review are our own.
