Jedi News Comic Review: Star Wars Droids #3

It is a time before the battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance is still young and the Empire still growing. But for C-3PO, a simple protocol droid and R2-D2, a courageous astromech droid, it is still early days. They are off on their own little adventures in strange and mystical galaxies. This time, their latest adventure brings them to the world of Kalarba.

Their latest adventure brings them to Hosk spaceport where C-3PO and R2-D2 are picking up Nik Pitareeze from his shuttle. Because of the bumpy ride C-3PO trips over and cracks his head which he requests to get fixed immediately. But his fixations cause him to look like the well feared C-3PX assassin droid who has a bounty on him!

So when Nik and Threepio are walking down an alley way a suspicious being mistakes him for C-3PX and zaps him. But another problem has occurred; R2-D2 seems to be missing! When Threepio and Nik are taken to an arena they spot Artoo in a Mandolarian battle harness ready to fight. Threepio is forced into the ring to fight to the death of with Artoo! What will happen? Find out in Droids 3 of 6.

The Review

In this action packed issue of Droids we will be seeing some movement from the usual gang of Threepio, Artoo, Nik, and the Baron. Arch enemy Olag also makes a comeback. C-3PX, a well feared assassin droid will also be making a first time appearance in this issue!

Threepio and Artoo will have the objective of receiving Nik from his shuttle in Hosk station while the Baron comes to collect them later. Threepio requests that he gets some repairs which causes him to look like an assassin droid and Artoo kidnapped. Threepio and Nik are then both taken to a droid arena where Threepio is forced to fight Artoo in a deadly battle.

Due to the appearance of C-3PX the action bar is really raised. It makes the read much more exciting with unanticipated corners and more mild violence. The weapons get cooler each issue with the stakes rising as well. This comic seems to learn from its mistakes from last issue and works on them to create a better issue each time. This will also start a climax for the last issue which I rarely see in series these days.

The dialogue is now fully flowing as it should be, working in conjunction with the beautifully illustrated pictures. The issues have become much more intense but still kept the innocence of a younger persons comic. Overall this is has raised the bar again and is a must read even if for the good memories.
