It is an early time for the Rebellion. The Empire is at large pressing down on the Rebel uprising. However the Rebels have new strategies and tactics, planning to fool the Empire. So for Darth Vader to truly understand the Rebels he will need someone on the inside. This person being Blackhole. A mysterious source only contacted through visual comlink, his identity hidden by a star dazed cape.
The recent attacks on rebel strongholds have been victorious for the Empire lately but the battles were won too easily. Sensing a disturbance in the Force Darth Vader consolidates with Blackhole. Blackhole states that the Rebels are purposely retreating from the Empire to acquire time to recruit new Rebel members.
Darth Vader’s mysterious source also reveals that the heroes of the Alliance, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker are heading to the gamblers planet of Vorzyd 5. Their mission is top secret and even the greatest Imperial Spies know not of their intentions. Luke and Leia set down on the central gamblers section and travel from Casino to Casino. But the planet is Imperial controlled so the slightest bit of attention and the mission could be jeopardized!
The Review
This series really focuses on the main characters of Han, Leia, Luke, Chewbacca and of course Artoo and C-3P0. However, some of the characters are portrayed differently. Chewbacca is seen as much more of a Ralph Mcquarrie concept with dog like features. Luke is also shown as a much more immature character with Leia acting as the subtle mother like figure reminding and leading him. Having the characters depicted with different features almost makes a parallel like universe of Star Wars.
A lot of the background scenery is illustrated in a very 60’s sci-fi like manner. There are hover taxis, robot police and big rounded buildings. This makes the story of Star Wars feel very dated as it truly seems like this series was drawn up being based on the 60’s. But considering we still haven’t invented hover cars or robocops then the reader knows that the story must be set in the future.
The disguised figure known as Blackhole really plays an intriguing part as he brings this excitement to the reader as they want to find out who this mysterious capped figure is. This really makes the story more intense and buries the reader within it as the mystery of the unknown plays on the back of the readers mind. This also helps a mental build up to the final outcome making the last issue all that more indulgent. Overall this issue follows a very classic and stereotypical storyline but surprisingly isn’t boring as most comics these days don’t use these old and classic techniques.
