The great Rebel heroes Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia have travelled to the gamblers world of Vorzyd 5. Their mission is to rendezvous with fellow Alliance members and destroy the Emperor’s main source of funding. But the Rebels are ambushed and become held captive by Darth Vader’s new ally, the mysterious Blackhole.
After the Rebels were captured by the sinister Blackhole it was up to Artoo and Threepio to save them. They successfully hacked the holding cell and set their friends free at the cost of Alliance member Faluds’ life. They now seek fellow members to help try and track down their high priority contact.
They manage to find Sanglui, a former anti-Empire protester. He reveals that a message droid sent him the top secret instructions on how to find their contact. But there is a problem, only one of the group can go. Deciding that the matter should be solved fairly, three straws, two long and one short will be placed and pulled. Whoever receives the short straw gets to meet the contact!…
The Review
In this issue you’ll be seeing a lot more blaster action from Luke Skywalker and the group of Freelies as they get engrossed in an intense battle with the Shadow Troopers. This issue does see Luke using his blaster a lot more than his Lightsaber. This could be up to the fact that he hasn’t been trained in it yet or that he thinks a blaster is more effective. But either way, the action is still edge-of-your seat.
This issue also really takes the intense levels up a notch. There’s plenty more action and a smooth but heavier amount of dialogue. The stakes get higher and more desperate measures and actions are taken. Hopefully this will develop through the series into a final explosive master piece. But for now, the sudden blaster shots consisting of florescent colours fulfil the reader’s need of visual action.
Overall this issue has really developed well from the last. The story is starting to roll out from this rather thin storyline into a thicker one with more complications added every issue. The fine attention to detail is great with the superb colouring. The cover art always grabs the reader’s attention with an action shot and some really interesting illustrative techniques are used. This series just grabs the term classic so very well through satirical behaviour.
