First Details of UCS Republic Gunship Teased by LEGO Star Wars Designers

During a session earlier today with the LEGO Star Wars designers and other Fan Media we were shown the cockpit of the upcoming UCS Republic Gunship followed a Q&A, although they did not share much.

This is what we learnt: –

  • It has been designed by Hans Burkhard Schlömer, who has previously designed
sets including UCS Millennium Falcon (#75192), Betrayal at Cloud City (#75222) and UCS A-wing Starfighter (#75275).
  • The cockpit consists of two canopy pieces (part number 50986) in tandem with one another. They have been printed to convey the right shape, with a stripe above the gunner and all relevant markings above the pilot.

  • Based on the cockpit and previous incarnations of the Gunship in LEGO form, we can deduce the length of the LAAT/i Republic Gunship to be approximately 50-55cm.
  • The width of the Gunship should be roughly the same, although in previous LEGO models the width has been somewhat exaggerated. The ‘real’ ship is 17.4m long and 17m wide.
  • We were told a small coffee table would be advisable for display purposes.
  • We were reminded that minifigures are always a bonus with UCS sets, and when someone asked if they were aware of Jedi Bob they put their thumbs up, but when asked if it was in the set a couple of the designers put their thumbs down.
  • The set will be released later this year.

We expect great things from this set!
