The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in LA held an event under their Building Character program series looking at R2-D2 and celebrating maker Don Bies, (R2-D2, Star Wars Prequels and ILM Senior Model Maker) in conversation with Kaitlyn Yang.
During the event, Don shared stories, photos and videos from his years of building props for Lucasfilm/ILM. Several members of the R2 Builders Club attended the event, and a select few got a personal tour of the Kenny Baker R2 unit, built by Don, that is on the display in the museum.
