Two executive Star Wars gifts given to Bunny Alsop by Gary Kurtz, and then sold to Starlog magazine co-creator Norman Jacobs, are available as part of Bonhams Hollywood Then and Now Live Auction on June 6th, 2023.
Gary Kurtz “C-3PO” and “R2-D2” Executive Gift from Star Wars: Episode VI – A New Hope
20th Century-Fox, 1977. Original rare Industrial Light & Magic-made Executive gift featuring static display figures of “R2-D2” and “C-3PO” affixed to a black plexiglass base. Figures constructed of cast resin, tooled aluminum, and mixed-media components, expertly assembled, painted, and finished by the wizards at ILM. This meticulously detailed display was presented at the time of production to Star Wars Producer Gary Kurtz who then gifted it to his talented assistant and sister-in-law, Bunny Alsop. The late Alsop was a fixture in the early days of Lucasfilm Ltd. and worked with Kurtz on both Star Wars: Episode VI – A New Hope and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. In 1994, Alsop sold the crew gift to Starlogmagazine co-creator Norman Jacobs. “C-3PO” measures 10 x 5 x 5 in. and “R2-D2” measures 6.5 x 4.5 x 3.5 in. When sealed in the plexiglass box the entire display piece measures. 12.75 x 10.75 x 6.5 in. Exhibiting minor age and handling.
