Never-Before-Seen The Phantom Menace Storyboards

Collider.com have posted some exclusive storyboards from a never-before-seen battle sequence that was at one point set to be included within The Phantom Menace, courtesy of our good friend Jonathan Wilkins and the crew at Star Wars Insider.

We’re only a few weeks away from the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in theaters. The event hopefully marks the beginning of the theatrical re-release of all the films in the Star Wars saga (given that the first few are financially successful), and in anticipation of the theatrical exhibition, Star Wars Insider Magazine is releasing a celebratory issue. The magazine has been kind enough to provide Collider with an exclusive preview at what they have in store, giving us a peek at some never-before-seen storyboards from Episode I involving a battle sequence between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn and a slew of droids. Hit the jump to take a look.

During pre-production on the first Star Wars prequel, artists pitched battle concepts showing the Jedi-led attack on Theed before penetrating the hangar during the film’s climatic battle. While the sequence didn’t make the final film, Ed Natividad drew up some storyboards for the fight. The magazine will be publishing the full storyboard sequence in their celebratory issue, and we’ve got a few of the images to share with our readers. The sequence below features Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn in a Jedi vs. droid battle.
