Star Wars: The Old Republic – Game Update 7.4 ‘Chains in the Dark’ Livestream VOD

In this VOD, devs from the Star Wars: The Old Republic team go over the content coming in Game Update 7.4 ‘Chains in the Dark‘. This is an edited version of the developer livestream that aired on Wednesday, October 18th. Here are some of the highlights in this release: –

• Game Update 7.4’s storyline is called “Chains in the Dark”. Following the showdown between Shae Vizla and Heta Kol in Game Update 7.2, players will be returning to Ord Mantell to explore a small, provincial island called Kessan’s Landing to face the Hidden Chain strike team head on.

• Kessan’s Landing is a new Daily Area on Ord Mantell. Players will find that they can complete repeatable missions, and obtain new Achievements and Reputation rewards. There will also be a chain of side missions that will take players all over the galaxy, allowing them to assemble a piece of tech that will be very useful on Kessan’s Landing.

• Players will be meeting some familiar faces and be introduced to a new character in their journey on Kessan’s Landing. Rass Ordo, Arn Peralun, Captain Blyes, Gizmel Gam, and Darth Krovos will be returning in 7.4 and players will be meeting Petra Nihrum, a citizen of Kessan’s Landing.

• Lane Vizla’s story continues in Game Update 7.4 in a series of missions that follows the events of Showdown on Ruhnuk (Game Update 7.2). Throughout these missions, players will be meeting up Lane Vizla herself, an expert in droid history called The Curator, and an assassin droid HK-24 unit.

• A new world boss is coming in 7.4! FR3-D0M will definitely keep players on their toes. Players are encouraged to mind their feet and keep an eye out for burning patches of plasma that FR3-D0M tends to leave on the ground during combat. There is a chance that FR3-D0M will drop a unique mount called the Mantellian Separatist Hover Turret.

• Beginning in 7.4, we are activating a new character lighting tool for all cinematic content. Any cinematic content in the game currently – from class stories to world arcs to more recent expansions – will employ this new character lighting system. Some of the highlights of this system include using environment lighting for more accurate shadows, detailed self shadowing on characters, and more custom lighting control in cinematics.

• Life Day will be coming in 7.4. It is our seasonal holiday event where players can hug Wookiees, throw snowballs at other players, enjoy festive decorations on the Fleet and earn new rewards. This year, we are adding the Life Day Officer armor set.

• Specularity tech is coming to SWTOR! This new tech will allow colors in the game to look more metallic or matte. New chrome and metallic dyes will be added in 7.4. The new Suppression Trooper armor will be one of the first sets to show off the metallic black and pearlescent red dye pack that uses specularity. These dye packs can be applied to new and legacy armor sets.
