Club Jade delve deeper into both the video from last night featuring Greg Weisman talking about Rebels and the next issue of Star Wars Insider, which is hitting mats across the States as we speak. Weisman talks about the role of female characters in the forthcoming show.
We have two strong female leads in the show among our set of characters and we think they are going to be fan favorites very quickly. That’s always been a personal priority for me in all the work I’ve done, to have a strong and diverse cast of characters, both in terms of gender and race.
Weisman also praises the presence of Ahsoka in The Clone Wars, speaks of Ralph McQuarrie’s influence on the style of the show discusses the differences in the way the rebellion is presented in the show.
Just as an aside, when writing our own Star Wars fiction and discussing the rebellion pre-Star Wars we always descried them as being a rebellion with a small ‘r’, as opposed to the Rebel Alliance after A New Hope which was far more organised (and had a capital ‘R’!) At that time, rebel opposition to the Empire would have been isolated, disorganised and operating independently of each other. My assumption is that one of the many continuing plot thread of Rebels will be to show how the scattered cells of rebels unite to become an organised Rebellion.
