Star Wars: Episode VII – A Simple Wish List

    Five No-Brainers

    1) First and foremost, we need to have the Millennium Falcon’s snarky pilot on-board. Rumours have been flooding the Web regarding Harrison Ford’s potential appearance in Episode VII. The latest tidbit from Nuke the Fridge involves him accepting a Star Wars role if the studio green-lights two more Indiana Jones instalments. If it comes to fruition, we all get to see Han Solo one more time while removing the sour taste of “The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” from our mouths.

Han Solo has to be one of cinema’s greatest antiheroes of all time. He is a risk-taker, daredevil and gambling-type mercenary with loads of charm. No matter the setting, he approaches every situation with a high stakes mentality. If he were playing the video poker games at InterCasino, he would stare his adversaries in the eyes and go all-in on every hand—like when he risked the Millennium Falcon playing sabacc. The excitement in the air triggering his primal reflexes and each dealt hand would play out like the Greedo scene in the Mos Eisley Cantina. What’s not to love about the larger than life, Han Solo?

    2) If you have Han Solo, you must have his space wheels as well—the almighty, Millennium Falcon. According to Den of Geek, a full scale replica of our favourite spacecraft is being built at Pinewood Studios in London. This is wonderful news because, to many of us, The Millennium Falcon felt like another character in Episodes IV-VI. Before you start criticizing that remark, remember your concern when R2-D2 was damaged at the end of Episode IV. So if you can be sympathetic towards a robot, well then there is nothing wrong with slightly humanising a spaceship.

    3) Are you tired at looking at perfect cardboard cut-outs and CGI abominations? How great would it be to see people that look like people, aliens that look like aliens and robots that look like robots? Let’s try to keep the Kens and Barbies to a minimum, please. And let’s hope that “Bad Robot” is cool or evil, not hokey.

    4) Actors that can act would be fantastic. This is not a big concern because J.J. Abrams seems to have a great eye for casting. Names like Gary Oldman and Benedict Cumberbatch have been floating around recently and this is a great sign of things to come. We need to love the heroes and fear the villains. If there is a potentially obnoxious entity in the mix, bag it!

    5) Finally, we need an involved story with heart while avoiding a noisy, distracting, and soulless special effects extravaganza. How many Transformers-like movies have to be made to realize that computer generated, eye candy cannot carry a film. According to Star Wars News, Episode VII is scheduled to begin filming this spring and release in December of 2015. For most, its release can’t come soon enough, but if time ensures quality, let’s make it 2016 – many of us are still suffering from Episodes I-III post traumatic related symptoms.

Fear Not Young Jedis, The Dark Side is in Our Wake

What Culture has an interesting list of five things that could potentially ruin Star Wars: Episode VII, but you shouldn’t lose much sleep over it. We survived an evil Menace, an army of Clones and an angry Sith, all within ten years. We are the prevailing soldiers and Jedis of the Star Wars Universe.

Balance has been restored in The Force, and we will be rewarded for our loyalty, patience and resilience.
