Ever since Ania was captured by Ramid, her friends Sauk, AG-37, and former Imperial Knight Jao Assam have been searching for her. Jao is unsure of her innocence, but he’s willing to wait for her story before passing judgment…if they can find her at all.
Meanwhile, on Coruscant, where the bounty originated, another Imperial Knight is digging into her past…
The Review
How could things get any worse for Ania Solo? In Legacy #14, Ania must not only battle the bounty that’s after her, but the very elements of nature. Elsewhere, Imperial Knight Yalta Val is digging deep into Ania’s past to find the truth. Caught between brutal environments and dangerous bounty hunters, Ania’s only hope is her friends Sauk, AG-37 and Jao. But will they be enough?
With the artwork, the character and story developments, and the action, Legacy #14 is a perfect mix. In this issue, we get to find out more about Ania’s past. From her captivity in a Sith labor camp, to just what happened between her and Ramid, everything begins to make a lot more sense. Val’s investigation into Ania’s murder charge also reveals some interesting details which play out in this issue. By the end, we know why Ania left Ramid behind, we know who killed the Imperial Knight, and we know more about Ania’s past incarceration. But not everything is revealed, yet.
I don’t want to give too much away about the plot because there’s some really good development in this issue. Ania and Ramid have a great heart-to-heart moment that goes a long way in further fleshing out their characters and shedding some light on their past. Adding to the scene is a great use of the planet which creates some tension and adds a little action, thus preventing the scene from just being a single layer of storytelling. Instead, it adds layers and depth to the scene, as well as providing a good progression of the story as they find a way to move onward from shelter to escape. Sauk, AG-37 and Jao all bring a search element to the story as they look for Ania. The weather of the planet provides peril. On top of all that, there’s the bounty hunter, which not only provides threat, but plot as well.
The end of this issue is packed with action and drama. Characters face off against each other. There’s violence. The very last panel leave’s Ania in a position of hopelessness and danger. It’s a suspenseful conclusion that leaves the reader reeling from all that happens.
From beginning to end, this issue played out well. It was easy to get lost in the story, the characters, and the artwork. Simple scenes like glass rain pouring down on a ship become an immersive experience driving readers deeper into the story. Why? Because those little scenes are done so well and feel so natural. We can all relate to being caught in the rain and trying to find shelter. Sure, this is glass rain, so it’s more threatening than just getting wet, but it’s still relatable. Then you have a panel that shows rain streaking down, little sound effects going “Tink, tink, tink”, it just brings it to life. You can see the environment. You can hear the scene. It all comes together, and you get lost in the story. It’s a great example of how the creators work together to make this comic such a perfect mix of all their individual talents.
So, with Legacy #14, the story moves forward and the characters get even more interesting. The artwork continues to shine and this series gets better than ever. I’m going to hate it when this comes to an end. Corinna Bechko, Gabriel Hardman, Jordan Boyd and Michael Heisler make a great team. The level of immersive storytelling they were able to pull off in this issue is nothing short of a five out of five. All around, an awesome issue.
