‘Star Wars’ Grows In Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura has been a holiday location for me and my wife for over 20 years, but it has been a barren hunting place for anything Star Wars related, so when Lucasfilm and Disney announced the new Han Solo spin-off movie was to be shot on location on the island, my excitement for my June 2017 holiday suddenly escalated.

In recent years there have been unlicensed t-shirts, fake LEGO and very high priced legitimate toys in a few outlets.

Although the locals don’t have Star Wars fever, the merchandise has started to awaken on this sun-baked island.

Apparel

Adidas – Hard to come by in the UK apart from paying high prices to import. A great find and some pretty cool designs.

Licensed apparel has started to appear in the islands only eStadio Sport shop. This is a chain of shops throughout Spain and it’s islands and stocks items from big name manufacturers Adidas and Havianas

T-shirts

  • Kylo Ren
  • First Order Stormtrooper
  • BB-8 (Not pictured)

Retail at €25.95 each.

Children’s wear

Various types of garments available, retailing from €18 to €40.

Havianas – A common find, but rarely can you get UK size 9’s. Again some great designs. The pictures shown are this year’s latest designs.

Various styles available. Children’s sizes from €15 to €20, adult sizes from €18 to €25.

Unlicensed

For me probably the best and most exciting are the unlicensed tees. The reason being they are unique and rarely seen compared to licensed versions.

Natura – I was surprised to find anything Star Wars related in here. It’s not the type of shop that you would think would have such cool shirts as you walk past.

  • Vintage Rebel
  • Millennium Falcon – May the force be with you
  • Stormtrooper
  • X-Wing – To resist is to win

Bargain shirts at €17.95 each.

Standard – My favourite t-shirt shop in Corralejo. For the last 5 years they have released a new Star Wars themed shirt and so far I have collected them all. This year’s new design is the Stormtrooper

  • Stormtrooper T-shirt – €18.00
  • Vader/Breaking Bad Sweatshirt – €25

On the high street

Yoda – Party Hard U Must – €10

Toys

Jugueteria Nikki – The only real toy shop on the island. I previously made sale purchases here when the exchange rate was in my favour and came away with bargains. You will see from the price tags, although some items are heavily discounted, UK prices are cheaper.

Airport Duty Free Shop – If you think the toy shop is expensive, well you may need to sit down now.

  • A standard £20 Kylo Ren Lego buildable figure retails at €30!
  • Hot Toys cars are €15 each
  • On the high street – This is where the prices really do get daunting.
  • The same Kylo Ren Lego figure will set you back between €40 and €45 in most shops
  • A standard Rogue One 3.75” figure is €18

Fake Lego – Affordable and fun, but far inferior quality to the originals

12 figures available

Finn, Rey, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, Chewbacca, General Hux, Han Solo, First Order Crew, Tie Fighter Pilot, Stormtrooper Commander, Snowtrooper Commander, Stormtrooper. €2.99 each

Laser etchings

I found a stall at the local artisan market held at El Campanario in Corralejo that stocked and created laser cut wooden coasters/pictures. Very original and like the unlicensed shirts they carry some fascination and rarity. They had a great selection of various styles, but the Star Wars ones jumped out at me. Needless to say Boba came home with me! Prices from €10

Orders could be placed for the style and size you wished to be created.

Food

The only items around were chocolate cookies and although not directly Star Wars related they’re probably the best named crisps ever. Chispas chocolate cookies are €1.68 per pack while Kessel chips are €2.77 a bag in various flavours.

In summary, Star Wars has started to take off on Fuerteventura, but it’s rare that you’ll get a bargain toy. T-shirts on the other hand, well you can pick up some awesome items that are unlicensed.
