Anonymous sources at Guyancourt, owned by private equity firm Eurazeo SE, have revealed that Asmodee is exploring a sale that could value the board game distributor at €1.5 bn ($1.7bn).
Guyancourt has hired investment bankers to run a sale process, said the sources, who asked not to be identified because the deliberations are confidential.
Asmodee, which acquired Pokemon Cards distributor Esdevium last year, generates about €100 million in 12-month earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, according to one of the sources.
Reuters reports that spokesman for Eurazeo declined to comment. Asmodee UK’s Ben Hogg told ToyNews that the company has nothing to add at this time.
The best-known titles the company publishes or distributes include Catan, Ticket to Ride, Splendor, and the Star Wars: X-Wing board games. Since Eurazeo took over Asmodee in 2013 in a €143 million deal, Asmodee has been aggressively expanding beyond Europe and into the United States.
