Cartamundi USA is the sole license for playing cards with the Star Wars name. They have done many decks of Star Wars cards with super neat features. Some of these have been 3D lenticular cards, a deck full of exceptional Women of Star Wars and my favorite a deck with movie quotes on each card.
Most recently they have done the playing cards for Angry Birds Star Wars. The company doesn’t just have playing cards in paper boxes they know how to appeal to the collector by placing many of their decks in collector’s tins. Well they are back, and they are back with 2 fun products.
The first is a re-release of the 3D playing card deck that was originally unveiled at Star Wars Celebration V. Only this year it will be in a new embossed collector’s tin.
This is great because it gives collectors like yours truly another deck to add to my collection but it also makes the deck accessible for those that missed it the first time around. If you were a fan of the original deck and wanted a new item for your collection then you will have to wait until 2015. The company is in the works for a new deck but they plan to make their next 3D deck to coincide with Episode VII. Now that we have a release date my bet for this release will be for the 2015 Holiday Season. The next item to come out will be a Star Wars themed poker dice and chip set. This set is going to be a collectible for sure but it will be a reasonably priced collectible which many collectors will love. They have done poker chips and dice before but they were part of a much larger set that had light up chips. The chips and dice set was a project pioneered by Rob Springs the VP of Business Development at Cartamundi. The set is not only going to look aesthetically cool but it is going to be affordable. The chips in this deck are lightsaber themed and Cartamundi used special colors for the chips. The chips are Blue, Purple and Red. The dice are a lightsaber green with a Star Wars logo etched on them. The chips have an embossed design on the center of them and the edge of them as well. The set will most likely be priced in the $6 to $7 range and the normal big box retailers.
While these details were certainly exciting the most exciting things are yet to come. Here are some things still to come from Cartamundi USA for 2014 and into 2015.
- Story of Darth Vader-next deck for 2014 will be the single and double decks in this line. The single deck will have images of Anakin and Darth Vader from all the films. This will be a first as they have not put together images from both trilogies in one pack. The double deck will be in a collector’s tin and one deck will be Anakin while the second deck will be Darth Vader. You will get more images and cards this way.
- The company is already working on their exclusives for Celebration VII. Some of them will be giveaways while others will be available for purchase.
- They are evaluating Rebels at this time to see if the show will give legs to a product for 2014.
- Christmas 2014 will be a big time for Cartamundi USA and Star Wars
- 2015 will be all about Episode VII
Looks like things are heating up for the Cartamundi USA and Star Wars relationship. Keep your eyes on the shelves.
