Review:

This is the third LEGO Star Wars set of this ilk, featuring a small diorama of a significant battle from the saga. The Death Star II Battle follows last year’s LEGO Star Wars 20th Anniversary set, Battle of Hoth (#40333), and Battle of Endor (#40362). Both previous sets where also available as a gift-with-purchase in May and October respectively.

The set is packaged in a premium style box with a lift-up flap. Inside there are three bags of elements and an instruction manual. There are no stickers in the set, the LEGO Star Wars 2020 2×4 flat tile is printed and currently unique to this set. The only other element that appears to unique is the clear 1×1 tooth element which is used as the cockpit for the A-wing.

As with the previous sets, you start by building the base which is constructed on its side with some exposed studs to attach greebling and vehicles to. The base comes together in three parts, and the resultant Death Star surface looks impressive.

Once the base is built you start to add further details including a gun turret and three towers which add colour and depth to the structure. It is then on to build the first of the two vehicles, the TIE Interceptor. The TIE is composed of 22 elements and features four of  the new 2×4 wedge plates first seen in last year’s UCS Star Destroyer. Next up is the A-wing, built of 16 pieces. Whilst the TIE Interceptor looks great, the A-wing leaves a lot to be desired and better versions have appeared in previous LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendars, using less elements too.

You can watch us build the model in this time lapse video: –

Overall:

This set is available for free from now to May 4th 2020 when you spend £75/€75/$75 at LEGO.com. Whilst the A-wing could be better it is a nice freebie and goes nicely with the two previous releases. Go get it now whilst stocks last.
