Sideshow Collectibles Declines Offering SDCC Exclusives This Year

Our The Force United colleagues over at Jedi Temple Archives have been doing a bit of detective work and have noticed that there might be things happening over at Sideshow Collectibles.

In March we broke the news that Sideshow Collectibles had quietly cancelled the release of the “all clean” C-3PO Life Size Bust. It was odd for multiple reasons. Up to that point, Sideshow Collectibles would never reveal a product and place it on pre-order only to cancel it. It’s too far along in the process at that point. What made it more odd was that their reason for cancelling it was because they couldn’t replicate the paint operations from the prototype. Sideshow Collectible “can’t” replicate the paint operations of the prototype? We don’t think so. There has to be something more here. Now, CoolToyReview.com is reporting that Sideshow Collectibles has bowed out of offering a San Diego Comic Con exclusive this year. WHAT?! This is unprecedented and VERY disappointing. And quite frankly it makes no sense. While there is nothing more we can do than speculate at what’s going on, it does make us wonder if we have room to worry about what their future plans are for products under the Star Wars branding. What are your thoughts?
