Vintage Kenner Red Bar R5-D4 3.75″ Action Figure Success

Remember this article – Is Your R5-D4 Worth More Than You Realise?

Well if you don’t, go and read it as it has played a small part in a true gent in the collecting community’s heart.

Brian Angel [thanks also for the photo] is a fellow R5-D4 focus collector (a focus collector is someone who specialises in a single character, movie, licensee….) who graciously allowed me to share some photos of his collection in the article on red bar R5-D4s above. Buried in the article I put on there that Brian would be very interested to learn of an existing Empire Strikes Back or Trilogo carded red bar R5 to compliment the others in his collection.

Fast forward a few months and ta-da: –

Fellow collector Eric Nederostek spotted this item for sale and worked with the seller, David Lemieux, to come to an agreement for this item to find a home in the R5 archive in California. What is even more fascinating is that David was gracious enough to spot that Brian was a true collector, in part to the above article, who was not in the hobby for financial reasons and therefore accepted an offer which would probably have been less than if it had gone to auction. It’s stories like this that will keep the hobby going.

As a fellow R5 collector I’m ecstatic to find this has gone to a deserving home and I hope it shows that fellow focus collectors are not in competition with each other but instead compliment and lookout for each other. Sharing photos, documenting and researching has just an important place in the hobby as does owning these stunning pieces. Now let’s find that trilogo to make the full circle complete!
