On Saturday night, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Industrial Light & Magic, visual effects legend Dennis Muren returned to the companies original home in Van Nuys, California.
The industrial building – now occupied by a signage company – is where Muren and his ILM colleagues created the groundbreaking visual effects for Star Wars: A New Hope. One of ILM’s first employees, the nine-time Academy Award winner toured the facility for the first time in about 50 years. Muren was a guest of Jared Cowan, host of the On Location with Jared Cowan podcast and My Valley Pass. The evening concluded with a screening of A New Hope, projected in the very same parking lot where some of the film’s most memorable effects were filmed.
Clayton Sandell has written up the visit in a blog post at ILM.com.
