After a busy first day at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 which featured the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase in front of over 4,500 people on the Celebration stage, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy led a delegation to City Hall to meet London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan with Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Tony Gilroy, Leslye Headland and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. They were also joined by Jan Koeppen, President of The Walt Disney Company in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Justine Simons, Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, and Asad Ayaz, Chief Brand Officer of The Walt Disney Company.
Star Wars has a long history in and around London, with the original trilogy being made at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, The Phantom Menace at Leavesden, and over the last ten years all Star Wars theatrical releases were made at Pinewood Studios along with recent Disney+ shows Andor and The Acolyte. Some of Andor’s first season’s scenes were shot in central London around Canary Wharf and the Barbican.
