This show just gets bigger and better each year! Last years saw a record breaking 122,634 visitors over the 3 days while this year saw a whopping 133,000 gamers, geekers, and cosplayers ransack two halls worth of geeky heaven with Saturday becoming a completely sold out show. As always the expo saw a collaboration of Sci-fi, Anime and RPG and many more come under one roof in a celebration of the culture. There’s nothing but love at these events with such a wide range of people, ethnicities and cultures from around the world.
As per usual Star Wars made an appearance in force with merchandise spilling out of the stalls. Walls of the Funko Pop! figures could be spotted from across the halls allowing fans to hunt for their favourite characters from the newly released The Force Awakens range. The black series die cast collection also made a huge presence with even American import rarities making it onto the stall such as the San Diego Comic Con exclusive First Order Stormtrooper.
Warwick Davies was the only Star Wars related guest at this convention and really stole the show through a range of talks that included his work on Star Wars, Harry Potter and the upcoming theatrical show “Eugenius”. Graham Goring also hosted Building Bricks from TT productions which provided insight into what we can expect for The Force Awakens Lego game and gave audiences members the chance to ask questions of their liking.
One of the great things about the MCM shows is the sheer controversy. There’s such a strong mix of different flavours of geek culture that you can truly walk away feeling that you’ve really seen a little extra to the culture we enjoy so much. Independent exhibitors sell side by side with institutions with no competition and just a shared loved of true geekism which really is a great site.
The Excel centre really is a great venue with spacious halls, a wide selection of food and drink kiosks and a great number of other facilities which is just a few of the reasons it’s going to be the perfect venue for Celebration, despite its beautiful setting next to Victoria Docks and is only a short tube journey from the centre of one of the greatest cities in the World.
