When I went to the Disney Store Star Wars media event we also got to preview a new fun iOS app called Star Wars: Journeys.
This particular game is going to be a really neat way for families to travel through the Star Wars stories at their own pace and to do it together.
As you go through the game you get to discover character profiles and play activities to unlock more pieces of each character and parts of the story. The first story we get is The Phantom Menace and the activity you can play to achieve unlockables is podracing.
The cool thing about this is that you can even customize your own pod! There are some other really neat graphics designs for the game notably the 180 degree parallax, which means when you move your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch the scene you see will also move. This will unlock dialogue and animation in the scenes.
In addition the team for the game partnered with Skywalker Sound for realistic sounds as well as using dialogue directly from the films. There was lots of original artwork developed for the game but it still fits the overall Star Wars style.
My absolute favorite part of the game is that James Arnold Taylor did the narration for the Story part of the game. This was immediately recognizable for me and I was so thrilled to hear his voice on another Star Wars project.
Here are the specs, the game is now available for $6.99 on iOS 6 and up only at this time.
The game will work on the following iPhones: 4s, 5, 5s and 5c, the following iPads: iPad 2 and up and for the iPod touch (no clarification on which generations will support the game). They do have plans to release it on Android devices but there is no timeline for that release.
In addition they do plan on releasing the other films as updates for the game by the time Star Wars Episode 7 releases all 6 films will be available on the app.
The game played fabulously and I can’t wait for people to head to iTunes and grab it. Let us know what you think. If you want to read more of the technical details please see the official press release (here).
I highly recommend this game so head on over to the app store and pick it up, also remember to leave it a review.
Keep your eyes peeled here on Jedi News as we will be doing a giveaway related to the game in the coming days.
May the force be with you!
