Fans of the animated series won’t have to wait much longer to get their Star Wars Rebels fix as Season 2 is set to premiere Saturday June 20 on Disney XD with a special one-hour movie event titled “The Siege of Lothal” which was shown last month at Celebration Anaheim 2015.
New Season 2 episodes after this initial debut are scheduled to arrive later in the Fall.
The official announcement also mentions a series of celebratory May the 4th events such as the Rebels Season 1 marathon that we reported earlier.
The early Summer debut for Season 2 (even just the special one-hour premiere) has me scratching my head quite a bit, as this all but assures we will not be getting the release of Season 1 on Blu-ray beforehand (I was almost certain the Blu-ray release date for Season 1 was going to be announced at Celebration, but it was not). This was a major sore spot for me with The Clone Wars series (the previous season being released on Blu-ray weeks aftter the new season had already begun to air) and was something I really hoped would be corrected with Rebels.
