Could Star Wars: Detours Get a Surprise Disney+ May 4th Release?

Rumors are suggesting that Star Wars: Detours could finally see the light of day after many  years in limbo, with a surprise release on Disney+ on May 4th. The last official word on the series was in 2018 when Lucasfilm registered some trademarks. With around 40 episodes ready to air, we can only hope….

The CGI-animated comedy Star Wars series never saw the light of the day since its initial announcement in 2012. While by default not part of the current Star Wars canon, as it was before the Disney buyout, it is also starkly different from the other animated shows in the universe. In fact, the series is a parody of the entire franchise, offering a comedic take on what happened between the prequel trilogy (Revenge of The Sith) and the original trilogy (A New Hope).

The show is set in the Star Wars universe and explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe’s regular folks and their everyday problems… which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith. Welcome to Star Wars: Detours: the other side of the stars, between the wars.

The voice cast for Star Wars: Detours is quite extensive, with some actors returning to reprise their roles from the films. Those stars include Ahmed Best as Jar Jar Binks, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. Some familiar characters have new actors in the roles though: Seth Green voices Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Catherine Taber as Princess Leia, Andy Richter as Zuckuss, “Weird Al” Yankovic as 4-LOM, Abraham Benrubi as Darth Vader, and Seth MacFarlane as Palpatine.

Other actors without known characters in the series consist of Dee Bradley Baker, Felicia Day, Grey DeLisle, Donald Faison, Nat Faxon, Jennifer Hale, Zachary Levi, Joel McHale, Breckin Meyer, Dan Milano, and Cree Summer. Han Solo is also featured in the series, though it is still unknown who voices the character.

Star Wars architect George Lucas was the creator, while Robot Chicken’s Brendan Hay served as showrunner. Hay lead a writers room that contained Jane Espenson, Doug Goldstein, David A. Goodman, Breckin Meyer, Dan Milano, Michael Price, Tom Root, Kevin Shinick, and Zeb Wells. The series is produced by Lucasfilm Animation in collaboration with Robot Chicken creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich.
