Donald Glover Talks ‘Solo’, First-Time Shot Of The Falcon, The Iconic Cape

/Film has rounded up some of the comments made by actor Donald Glover during a panel held for the second season of Atlanta, a TV series created by and starring Glover. With Solo: A Star Wars Story only a few short months away, the conversation naturally turned to his portrayal of Lando Calrissian in the film. Glover revealed how Ron Howard directed him in filming a specific shot involving the Millennium Falcon that has never been seen on the big screen before.

“I remember going on set one of the first times, he was like, ‘Yeah, I want to follow you onto the Millennium Falcon and do this thing,’” Glover said. “I was like, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen the outside go into the inside.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, no one’s ever done that shot.’ As a fan I was like yeah, I was really excited. I know there’s been a lot of talk in the press about this movie but for me anyway, it was a dream and also it looks really cool to me.”

A new take on an old classic? Sounds damn good to me.

Glover also revealed that once Howard came on board to take over as director from initial hires Phil Lord and Chris Miller, he didn’t have to reshoot many of his particular scenes.

“Not a ton actually,” Glover said. “Not a lot at all, at least not for me. I think we’ve all never been faced with anything like that and I think he did a good job of coming and tell us he didn’t want to change what we were doing at all. He wanted us to remain confident in our vision. He just wanted to sculpt it in a way.”

Glover went on to say that Billy Dee Williams used the word “charming” when offering up some advice on how Lando should be played. Glover’s father was also brought on set during production of Solo and the biggest news of all….

The cape will be back.
