Erin Kellyman (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Tim McGraw (1883) are set to star alongside Kevin Bacon in Southern Bastards, the recently announced Hulu drama pilot from director/executive producer Reinaldo Marcus Green.
Kellyman will play the role of Roberta, with McGraw as Coach Boss. Bacon plays Earl, as previously announced.
Based on the award-winning graphic novel series by Jason Aaron & Jason Latour, who serve as exec producers, Southern Bastards follows a tenacious military vet into Craw County, Alabama, in search of her estranged father. What she finds is a murderous hornet’s nest of organized crime run by the winningest high school football coach in the South.
Kellyman’s Roberta is a former marine who is facing charges by the military after an incident in Afghanistan. Intelligent and psychologically complex, she’s constantly trying to understand and outrun her generational trauma and inherited violence. When Roberta comes to Craw County, she’s just out for revenge, but if she’s going to change this county for good and topple everything Boss has built, she’s got to put down roots and find a home in the town.
McGraw’s Coach Boss is the legendary head football coach of Craw County High School — the leader of his community and a complex figure who embodies the dark side of Southern football culture. He’s the head of an organized crime ring that extends beyond his small town in Alabama, and he’s not afraid to protect his empire by any means necessary.
Bacon’s Earl is the son of the legendary Sheriff Bert, who ruled Craw County with an iron fist.
