The Screen Actors Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have failed to reach an agreement over higher compensation in the streaming TV era plus safeguards around the use of AI, with a final strike vote planned for 9am PT (5pm BST) today. If the strike goes ahead, this will be the first time since 1960 that Hollywood has found itself in a double strike (actors and writers).
Fran Drescher, SAG-AFTRA’s president, called studio responses at the bargaining table “insulting and disrespectful.”
“The companies have refused to meaningfully engage on some topics and on others completely stonewalled us,” Ms. Drescher said in a statement. “Until they do negotiate in good faith, we cannot begin to reach a deal.”
If the strike goes ahead all productions currently in progress, including the second season of Andor, will shut down. Also, there will be no interviews by cast and crew ahead of the release of Ahsoka on August 23rd on Disney+, or any other films/shows until a resolution is found. The writers have been on strike since May 2nd, 2023.
We hope an agreement can be made quickly to allow writers and actors to return to work with a fair deal.
