Let me preface this article by saying I’ve never been an overwhelming fan of viewing a movie in an IMAX theater setting. I guess the appeal of it never quite caught on with me. The same can be said for 3D movies, though I have even less of an affinity for 3D than I do for IMAX. Rick Munarriz over at The Motley Fool takes a look at the declining share prices for IMAX and believes that moviegoers are bypassing this experience in favor of smaller theaters with new comfy reclining seats.
Has the appeal of IMAX reached its saturation point? Big budget films continue to be released in this format and with future Star Wars and Indiana Jones films slated for the IMAX treatment, those blockbuster tentpoles may help boost IMAX sales back up.
