As a follow-up to Collider’s latest piece in which they speak with Ronald D. Moore about working on the cancelled Star Wars live-action TV series before Lucasfilm was officially purchased by Disney, we wanted to go back in time a bit and revisit two interviews IGN conducted with Rick McCallum and George Lucas on this very subject. The brief Lucas interview was held in 2010 and the McCallum interview took place in 2012. Below are a few highlights taken from each interview as a refresher on the initial work that was being performed to develop the first planned Star Wars live-action TV series.
– The working title for the series was Star Wars: Underworld.
– The series was set to take place during the 20-year period between Episode III and Episode IV.
– 50 “timeless” scripts were written for the series that focused on the criminal, gang-related aspect of Star Wars.
– The budget was $5 million per episode.
– Each episode was going to be one-hour in length.
– Lucas and McCallum wanted see how technology could potentially evolve down the road to allow the series to be made on a leaner budget.
– Finding the right delivery method for the series was a major concern.
