Recently reunited with Jedi Dass Jennir, the crew of the Uhumele have enlisted his assistance in their plan to strike a heavy blow against the Empire.
Having encountered the Emperor’s right hand, Darth Vader, on more than one occasion, the crew knows that Jedi—such as Jennir and relative newcomer Beyghor Sahdett—are the best bait. Jennir has sent the group out to find one more Jedi, in order to increase the plan’s chance of success.
On Coruscant, Vader slowly bends bounty hunter Falco Sang to his will, hoping his services can benefit the Empire. Meanwhile, Vader’s lieutenant Gregg searches for any signs of his master’s obsession: Jedi.
Writer Randy Stradley, artist Doug Wheatley, colourist Dan Jackson and cover artist Benjamin Carre launch the latest story in the Dark Times series.
The Review
What a story! Those are the best words to describe how I feel about A Spark Remains # 2. It starts off with a cool scene, in which we see Palpatine snooping around, checking up on what Vader’s up too. Very sneaky. We also see how hard it is to locate a Jedi, even if you’re another Jedi. 17 planets and Beyghor and Dass haven’t got a single clue. We even get to see Rion, a tropical planet from the EU that has a very unfortunate, frosty future…
Dass Jennir and Ember’s relationship is fleshed out more, and we see how Dass is very inexperienced in relationships. It’s not that he’s emotionally unintelligent, it’s just Jedi aren’t supposed to form attachment, and the Order apparently did a good job on Jennir.
The transition between storylines is crisp and comfortable, much better than Brian Woods’s Star Wars, and I constantly feel that I’m watching a classic Star Wars movie. Meanwhile, what is Falco Sang’s purpose? When will he be utilized and what does Vader have planned for him? All we know is that he has guts. I’ve never seen anyone (Force-sensitive or not) get the jump on Vader like this guy did.
All in all, one of the best Star Wars comics, I’ve read in my entire life. Many twists, a furry familiar face and a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers.
