FIRE CARRIER part FIVE (of five)
Having escaped an Imperial refugee camp into the wilds of Arkinnea, Jedi Master K’Kruhk, Master Zao, and a group of younglings now flee the local militia after discovering them massacring refugees in a remote location to avenge bitterness sown during the Clone Wars.
Unknown to the locals, Imperial Commander Teron suspected foul play at the camp and appealed to an orbiting star destroyer for help uncovering the truth—after Darth Vader refused to approve an investigation.
To draw the militia’s attention, K’Kruhk separated from Zao and the Padawans, but the younglings and the blind Master have run into other locals who appear even more threatening than the soldiers…
That’s your final opening ‘scroll up’ as writer Randy Stradley, artist Gabriel Guzman, colourist Garry Henderson, letterer Michael Heisler and cover artist Doug Wheatley bring the latest story of Dark Times to a close.
The Review
Well this issue immediately steps up the relatively cliché and boring last issue, with Zao showing his aptitude in the Force, effortlessly deflecting a blaster bolt and then telekinetically “squeezing” a rock formation out of the ground to act as a shield between his party and the Arkinnea militia. Siddiri also shows her stuff, angrily shoving Zao’s rock formation and presumably killing the militia. She is certainly skirting close to the dark side…
The Empire, strangely so, is not actually the bad guy in this situation showing that amongst all the sadistic xenophobic Imperials, there is a Teron or two among them who knows right from wrong. He even refers to the evil Galactic Empire as a “United Empire” where every sentient is granted the same degree of justice. Declaration of American independence much.
Teron also meets with K’kurhk and the two catch up on what really happened during the end of the Clone Wars. You never think you’d see an Imperial commander and a Jedi have a friendly heart to heart.
The younglings and K’kurhk conveniently find an old Republic outpost to live in, but it was such a quaint design that I have little objections with it.
All in all, this was a wonderful little tale and an excellent end to a mixed bag of a series.
