It is an old era when the galaxy was ruled by one governmental body, the Senate. Jedi were in force keeping the peace in the galaxy. But far away the ancient Sith resurrect from their downfall. The Emperor and his Dark Council take back one world at a time as they try to rule the galaxy once again. The two opposing sides have finally agreed on a peace treaty, but small forces still battle and Sith retire to their individual worlds where they experiment on twisted weapons and developments.
One of the Republics elite spies, Theron Shan, had been assigned to a mission that reveals dark secrets that could spark the start of another war. When setting off on his latest assignment he discovers that his old teacher, Jedi Master Zho, has reappeared after living behind Sith lines for years on end. Theron tries to collect information from his old master but has no luck and can only see a fragment of the man he once knew.
They travel to the corner of the star system where Zho supposedly lived for all those years. But the old crazy man was right, as Darth Mekhis is creating a secret super weapon which has the power to destroy entire planets. Can a spy, an old crazy Jedi Master and a small time thug stop, and hopefully destroy the factory site and the super weapons along with it?
The Story
The second Death Star has fallen by the hands of Lando Calrissian and Wedge Antilles. The great Luke Skywalker has destroyed the feared Dark Lord of the Sith known as Darth Vader. And the Emperor has also fallen, this time by the turned hands of Darth Vader. But despite this final victory, word is spreading slow and isolated Imperial forces are still attacking the mighty Rebel Alliance, un-knowing about the Empires defeat.Shortly after the destruction of the second Death Star, a handful of X-wing fighters teamed up to create rogue squadron, a highly skilled star fighter squad capable of taking on any mission. Their latest mission takes them to the world of Cilpar, a world divided by Imperials and Rebels. After their convoy was attacked they had to set down in an unknown area of the planet.
They finally meet up with the local Rebels and have been learning about the situation while they follow them around the destroyed town. But they suddenly come under attack from the Imperial Grand Moff known as Boren Tascl. They make a hasty retreat to a mystical temple where they become pinned down. But the other squadron members are having better luck as they come across a familiar Rebel spy.
The Review
In the second issue of Rogue Squadron we’ll be seeing some great action from Wedge Antilles, Elscol and her counterpart Groznik. However there’ll also be some more movement from Tycho Celchu and a mystical rebel spy. There’s an insight into an interesting new beast known as Ronk and you’ll even get a glimpse of a Space Trooper!
Just like the first issue, the opening page was full of action, explosions and hatred. Another classic depiction of the relationship between the Rebels and the Imperials. The other interesting thing within this issue is that several stories are taking place which all link and come together at the end. Very clever and something which I have noticed is getting rare in comics.
The colours used with the illustration are very bland and dull. However this makes the scenario much more real as these are the colours of real life. And what fan doesn’t want Star Wars to be next to real?! Although the pop art like scenes used in issue one haven’t been carried through and have been replaced with block background colours. A shame, but it still makes the comic ever more interesting and unique.
