Rebels gave us a little change of pace this week but we were totally ok with it. We are starting to see the type of range this show is going to give us. Some episodes are going to be just good fun.

Story/Plot
Teresa: This particular episode of Rebels was different from the episodes we have seen before. The plot was not very deep but was simply to show us the relationship between Ezra and Zeb. I very much appreciated the light heartedness of the episode, because as enjoyable as the last episodes were, things were getting heavy. I could see that if all the episodes giving us back story were piled on top of each other the series would take a very serious tone. I felt like we got to learn about the inner workings of the Ghost and the way that Hera runs her ship. We got to see how obsessed the show is with fruit, and I like fruit. I still don’t know how to spell the fruits they reference but they look yummy!
Aaron: This episode had a little different feel than what we’ve seen from Rebels so far. Both Spark of Rebellion and Droids in Distress had intense and serious moments. Fighter Flight brought us a much more lighthearted and fun story. Zeb and Ezra surprisingly are still at each other’s throats despite the events of the last episode and are forced by Hera to go get groceries together. Nothing dramatic happens but we got to see the relationship between Ezra and Zeb develop more. Their adventure led to some great stormtrooper bashing, theft of a TIE fighter and an all-around fun story.

Characters
Teresa: The beginning of Rebels has been very Zeb heavy and even Ezra heavy. I am not sure if I like this, but I am hoping we start to get some balance since there are so many characters to explore. I am loving the relationship between Zeb and Ezra though. I love how Ezra turns Zeb into a little “kid” Lasat?
There were a few fantastic moments with Chopper that had me rolling with laughter. I could watch him fake Ezra out with the Force over and over. Sabine had a great moment where we really got to see her doing her art and that was nice to see. There really was not much development of the characters, instead we just got to enjoy them being themselves.
I think it is important to just see them as they are and not always have to have them proving something to us.
Aaron: Last episode seemed to focus mostly on Zeb and Ezra, so you would think this episode might have shifted focus to other characters, but that wasn’t the case. This episode gives us more Zeb and Ezra. Actually they are pretty much all we get. Chopper has a great moment with Ezra at the beginning, Sabine briefly painted something, and Kanan and Hera have a cute “space married” moment, but this was ultimately the Zeb and Ezra show. Which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.
I was kind of surprised to see them still fighting. After Ezra saved his life, I thought Zeb might have softened to him a bit. I guess saving his life wasn’t enough, but going on a fruit run and stealing a TIE fighter together seemed to solidify their friendship. Maybe. We’ll see next episode.
We also got to see the beginnings of Ezra’s crush on Sabine. I’m interested to see where this goes as the series progresses. They aren’t as far apart in age as they may look. I wonder if the series makes it a few seasons, if this could be a hint at a more significant future relationship.

Outstanding Moments
Teresa: There were some really great moments but there were just a few that stood out to me as being moments I will remember. My most standout moment was the very first scene with Chopper where he makes Ezra think he is using the Force when he is not actually using it. I loved getting to see Hera in control of her ship and not wanting bickering “children” on her ship. There was a moment for me when Zeb scaled a wall and it made me think Spider Monkey!
If I had to pick one scene that gave me a lot of feelings would be when Zeb gave Ezra a Tie Fighter Pilot helmet almost as a olive branch. With Ezra’s initial reaction you could see the hurt Zeb felt because he really was trying to do something kind for the kid. However I am glad that Ezra quickly realized what Zeb was doing and he made sure to let Zeb know he appreciated it. This warmed my heart and made me smile. I love that Rebels can make me smile, laugh and cry all at the same time.
Aaron: I think Teresa and I are going to have some of the same here. The episode opens with a great scene of Ezra trying to use the Force. He seems successful but it is revealed Chopper is actually raising the bowl. I laughed out loud.
Zeb had a couple outstanding moments. I loved seeing him scale a wall using his claws. A cool ability I had no idea he had. And when he is shot from the wall he spins in the air as he is falling, and slams two stormtrooper into the ground, breaking his own fall. Awesome. Another scene he comes face to face with a Tie fighter and fearlessly jumps up on the canopy and takes the pilot right out of his seat. You gotta love this Lasat!
