Jodie Foster on Being Offered the Role of Princess Leia in Star Wars

During an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jodie Foster revealed that she was offered the role of Princess Leia in Star Wars but had to turn it down as she was under contract for the film Candleshoe for Disney.

“I had a conflict, I was doing a Disney movie and I just didn’t want to pull out of the Disney movie because I was already under contract. So I didn’t do it,” Foster said.

Foster mentioned that Leia’s iconic hairstyle might have been different had she taken the role.

“And they did an amazing job. I don’t know how good I would have been. And I might have had different hair, you know? I might have gone with a pineapple,” Foster said.

Fisher herself previously confirmed Foster’s consideration on the role.

We think the right choice was made in the end, and cannot imagine anyone else apart from Fisher in the iconic role.
