Joelle’s Force for Change Project

Here are the details about my Force for Change project and a link to my YouTube video and be sure to check out Galactic Fashion episode 20 where I chat with Johnamarie and Teresa about my journey so far.

Force for Change Spotlight girl @Joelle has just released her own project, a charity record “Skoobie Dootle” with a target of raising $10,000 for Force for Change! Pre-order the track (link in bio) and donate! It costs less than a dollar to take part and support this fundraising initiative, which is certain to raise awareness about Force for Change beyond the Star Wars community! All proceeds from record sales and downloads from iTunes/Google Play/Amazon are going directly to Force for Change! Show your support by pre-ordering today and share the links below with your family and friends.

Joelle’s recent charity initiatives were covered by Lucasfilm earlier this year on the Force for Change website. Joelle is best known in the community for her Stormtrooper belt, which she wears on most occasions, she says, in homage to Luke and Han. “I’ll never forget the moment Luke and Han famously wore their own Stormtrooper belts on the Death Star. They looked so cool right after rescuing Leia…or was it Leia rescuing them, or was it everyone rescuing each other?! I always wanted a Stormtrooper belt after seeing that rescue scene and I first got to wear one in 2013 on a photo shoot in London. Since then I’ve never looked back”.

Joelle is wearing her Stormtrooper belt throughout a music video to accompany the track, to raise awareness for Force for Change and to give the public a chance to learn more about the Star Wars community. Get ready to spread the word, follow Joelle and turn on post notifications to see news before everyone about the project as it develops! Force for Change is going to have a seriously fun next few months, with Joelle raising money and awareness for Lucasfilm’s worthy cause, which gives underprivileged children access to better health and education. Rescue a child with Stormtrooper belts at the ready, together we can all be a Force for Change!

Some common questions regarding the charity side of the project:
Does all the money go to Force for Change?
All proceeds from record sales, iTunes downloads, Google Play and Amazon downloads go directly to Lucasfilm’s charity Force for Change. By proceeds, what this means is iTunes takes its cut, then passes the rest of the money to a music distributor (called TuneCore). Tunecore then passes all the money from record sales and downloads directly to Force for Change. TuneCore has wavered their fee and are not taking a cut. The arrangement stays for life! So if you download the track in 3 years for example, the proceeds from the download will go to Force for Change.
Why are you wearing a Stormtrooper belt?
I wear a Stormtrooper belt for the fact that they look cool. I don’t know how else to put it. I realised that there were many people in society who don’t know what Star Wars is (hard to believe, but there are a few!). I realised that having the belt as part of my day-to- day fashion attire would lead some people who don’t know about Star Wars to ask questions and it’s a great way to explain to them what the community is all about and to let them know about Force for Change. As for people in the community, well,.. they know about Stormtrooper belts straight away, they get it in a flash. Dave Filoni saw it and knew straight away the nod to the Death Star scene.
How much money do you hope to raise with the project?
I’m hoping to raise $10,000 worldwide, and we’re starting with pre-orders today! To achieve this target we need around 14,000 to 15,000 downloads!
When is the track coming out and can I get it now?
The actual track is being released on the 10th March, but you can already pre-order it, which I encourage you to do, as it gives us an idea of how many people have been reached by the project already!

How long did it take to make the video?
It took over 6 months to put the whole video together. It was an amazing time and a lot of fun to make. If I would ever do it again (never say never) I would use lightsabers 🙂
What do you hope to achieve with everyone who takes part in the project?
Apart from raising money and creating awareness for Force for Change I hope the project will help spread hope and goodwill between all of us and develop a greater awareness of the Star Wars community with the wider public. Once people find out how amazing the Star Wars community is, they can’t help but want to get involved in some way. The Star Wars community is one of the most amazing communities I have ever met in my life and I don’t know what I would have done without it being here. You are accepted for who you are, it is one of the most liberating feelings I have ever had. It is freedom of expression and sharing creative ideas with others who do not judge you.

What do you hope to see with the future of Star Wars?
The story is about hope, I believe that expanding that story can never end, because we all have a desire to believe in something that can be better for everyone. The story of overcoming fear and the dark and being drawn to the light, that has to be one of the most positive things out there. I believe Star Wars will continue to grow epic tales of hope and of friendship, because without friends, what fun is there in saving the galaxy alone?
