Jon Favreau on Food, Films, Friends and The Mandalorian and Grogu | Dish Podcast | Waitrose

Sandwiched into a gigantic worldwide press tour for The Mandalorian and Grogu, Jon Favreau joins Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett in the Dish studio.

Jon’s latest adventure from the Star Wars universe stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White, but alongside his work behind some of Hollywood’s biggest films including Iron Man, Elf and The Jungle Book, there’s another side to Jon that food lovers know very well. From learning the ropes with Roy Choi for cult foodie film Chef to later building his own commercial kitchen and hosting The Chef Show, it doesn’t take long for Jon to roll his sleeves up and become Angela’s unofficial sous chef for the afternoon.

And because chefs support chefs, when Jon Favreau puts in a pasta request, how could Angela not say yes! This week she serves a Roman classic: pillowy gnocchi coated in a glossy cacio e pepe sauce, which goes down extremely well. Alongside it comes steamed broccoli with walnuts, olive oil and lemon for freshness and crunch, plus a bottle of Broglia Gavi DOCG: bright, crisp and exactly what’s needed alongside a cheesy sauce.

As we discover throughout the episode, there’s seemingly nothing Jon can’t do. Directing, acting, cooking, even DJing for Mark Ronson at star-studded Grammy parties. But amongst all the talents, we may have finally uncovered a Favreau knowledge gap: his time spent as Monica Geller’s billionaire boyfriend in Friends. While the memories may be slightly hazier than expected, Jon more than makes up for it by casually reeling off all five mother sauces like it’s the easiest thing in the world.
