Josh Gad Shares Exciting Spaceballs 2 News as The Schwartz Awakens Down Under

Josh Gad, the star of Spaceballs 2, has shared some exciting news about the sequel to 1987’s Spaceballs, “I’m leaving TIFF [Toronto International Film Festival] to fly to Australia to start shooting the movie.”

Speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Cinema Center for the new film Adulthood, Josh Gad revealed that the sequel to Mel Brooks’ 1987 cult classic is entering production very soon. “I can’t believe it’s actually happening. I pitched it to Mel Brooks three years ago,” Gad said. “The fact that we are at the end of pre-production… You’re the first person I’m telling this to: I’m leaving TIFF to fly to Australia to start shooting the movie.”

The fact that Australia is serving as the production hub for the long-awaited sequel was unexpected news. Gad kept further information under wraps, joking that “legal Amazon representatives” would show up if he revealed too much. What he did confirm is that the new film aims to strike a balance between sweeping location shots and carefully controlled soundstage work, just like the original.
