Kathleen Kennedy On Selecting Rian Johnson To Helm New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

We’re still days away from The Last Jedi arriving in theaters. And after that, we have 2018’s Solo standalone film by director Ron Howard and then the conclusion of the Skywalker-centered Sequel Trilogy in 2019 with J.J. Abrams’ Episode IX.

But even with it’s release being years down the line, we can’t stop thinking about the new trilogy of films Rian Johnson will be developing for the Star Wars universe. The director is barely in the infancy stages of creating this new collection of films, so it comes as no surprise that he would have very little to say about the state of his trilogy at this point in time.

This new trilogy of films will be a ground-breaking event in the history of the GFFA, that goes without question. Lucasfilm wouldn’t entrust this task to just any run-of-the-mill director. So why was Johnson selected for this monumental filmmaking achievement? Check out the following comments made by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy below.

“Needless to say, we’ve had an unbelievable experience working with Rian. It’s hard to believe that we’re well into three years, almost four, since I first sat down with Rian and started to talk about making a film. He wrote a beautiful movie, he prepared it beautifully with his producing partner, Ram Bergman. And I have to say, this is one of the best moviemaking experiences I’ve ever had. So I feel not only personally but I think Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company are very, very fortunate to be able to move into the future of the franchise with Rian at the helm.”
