Mark Hamill has been tapped to join a new horror series from Netflix, called The Fall of the House of Usher, based on the short story (and others) by renowned horror writer Edgar Allan Poe.
Flanagan tweeted about the show, saying: “This miniseries is a modern remix of some of the most iconic works of Edgar Allan Poe. To tell this epic tale of greed, horror, and tragedy, we have assembled the largest ensemble cast in the history of Intrepid Pictures.”
Alongside Hamill, the creators have also cast Frank Langella, Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell and Carl Lumbly.
We’re just a few weeks away from principal photography on THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, @intrepid‘s latest miniseries for @netflix. Today, Executive Producer Trevor Macy and I are elated to unveil the first wave of our cast.

Flanagan announced that Langella will play the titular character Roderick Usher, described as “the towering patriarch of the Usher dynasty,” with McDonnell playing “Roderick’s twin sister Madeline Usher and the hidden hand of the Usher dynasty”.
Lumbly is “Poe’s legendary investigator C Auguste Dupin” and Hamill is “a character surprisingly at home in the shadows,” though declined to give him a name. Flanagan also declined to name Gugino’s role in the show.
This is just the first wave of casting announcements, with further names set to be released tomorrow (Friday, December 10). Production on the series will begin soon, but no premiere date has been set as of yet.
Flanagan previously told TheWrap that the show would be different from his previous horror outings: “It’s very much its own thing tonally, thematically. It’s something we’ve actually never done before.”
The Fall of the House of Usher will be released on Netflix as an eight-episode miniseries 2022.
