After his role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was cut, Deadline is reporting that Matt Smith will finally make his on screen debut in a Star Wars project as a villain in Star Wars: Starfighter, opposite Ryan Gosling.
After fighting battles for House Targaryen, Matt Smith is ready to take his next fight to a galaxy far, far, away. Sources tell Deadline that the House of the Dragon star is on board to join Ryan Gosling in Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Starfighter. Mia Goth is also on board, with Shawn Levy directing the pic. Jonathan Tropper penned the script.
While exact details are vague on who Smith will be playing, sources say it will be one of the villain roles. Casting has been gearing up on the project over the past couple of weeks, with Levy meeting with a number of actors for this key role; sources say execs made the decision to go with Smith to play the next great villain in the Star Wars universe.
Lucasfilm and reps for Smith could not be reached for comment.
Star Wars: Starfighter lands in cinemas on May 28th, 2027, and starts filming later this year.
