Last month Entertainment Weekly provided readers with a bit more information on the character simply known as “DJ” played by Benicio Del Toro in December’s The Last Jedi. He is referred to as a “slicer”, or hacker, who’s in it solely for the money. No Resistance/First Order allegiances here with this character.
But what about the name “DJ”? What do these two letters stand for? Do they hold any real significance for the character? Making Star Wars may have the answer as one of their readers sent them the translated text of the Aurebesh writing that is found on the new Funko POP! figure of DJ (sold exclusively at Gamestop).
I translated the DJ Funko Pops hat’s Aurebesh and it translates to “Don’t Join!”
If this translation is accurate, it would make perfect sense given the neutral stance being described for the character. Forget joining a side in the galaxy’s conflict – accept jobs from both sides and double your earning potential.
