SPOILER WARNING: If you have not yet seen the thrilling Season 2 finale for The Mandalorian Disney+ series, you may want to stop reading at this point and come back after you’ve watched Chapter 16. Proceed at your own risk.
Last week’s Disney Investor Day 2020 webcast revealed a plethora of new Star Wars content slated to be released via Disney+ and in theaters over the next few years. But if you thought Lucasfilm announced everything currently in production during that webcast, you’d be wrong.
There is another.
Chapter 16 “The Rescue” directed by Peyton Reed pulled double duty when it officially landed on Disney+ yesterday. It brought Season 2 of The Mandalorian to an emotional-filled end while also starting up the future delivery of a brand new Star Wars series. This episode contained an end-credits scene featuring Fennec Shand and Boba Fett returning to a very familiar location from the Original Trilogy. We’re not going any further as far as detailing this scene for the sake of allowing you to be surprised the first time you see it when watching Chapter 16.
At the conclusion of the end-credits scene, the following text is displayed on the screen:
The Book of Boba Fett
Coming December 2021
We’ve heard rumors of a new Disney+ series being developed with Boba Fett as the central character (see the associated article Tag listed below) and now we have official confirmation from Lucasfilm cementing the status of this project. It will be interesting to see how this new Fett series ties into the events we’ve seen (and will see) play out in The Mandalorian along with the two other Mando spin-off series Star Wars: Ahsoka and Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic which are both being developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.
With Season 3 of The Mandalorian coming next Christmas and being joined by these three other series, this section of the official Star Wars timeline is about to explode.
