Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Rupert Friend has opened up about the the challenges of playing The Grand Inquisitor in the upcoming Disney+ series.
In the Star Wars spin-off series premiering on Disney+ next month, Friend’s pallid Pau’an will be on the hunt for Ewan McGregor’s titular Jedi master, 10 years on from the events of Revenge of the Sith.
Making an appearance on The One Show [April 12], the star told presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas all about his hellish costume.
“It was a sweaty, sweaty suit and I did sweat buckets inside the prosthetics which would pour across my face at the end of a day and make me look like a very, very miserable clown.
“But so worth it!” said Friend, who reunited with Wes Anderson for his Roald Dahl adaptation The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar earlier this year.
Further into their chat, he also found time to wax lyrical on joining the iconic Star Wars franchise.
“It’s amazing. They have literally built a universe over the years and the incredible thing about is the relationship between the stories and the fans is completely interlaced – they are as connected with those stories as those of us who make it and you really feel like you’re in dialogue as you do it… It’s an amazing thing to be a part of.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi starts streaming on Disney+ on May 27th.
