A century ago today one of the UK’s most beloved actors was born. Peter Cushing was born in Kenley, Surrey on 26th May 1913 and entered the film world in 1939 with The Man in the Iron Mask. It was the start of a big screen career that spanned 47 years and 86 roles including most infamously the role of Grand Moff Tarkin in A New Hope, Sherlock Holmes and both Baron Victor Frankenstein and Van Helsing for Hammer.
The image of Cushing as he appeared on a UK stamp seems wholly appropriate as without question the man himself was first class.
