Following Project Hail Mary’s record-breaking success at the box office, the highest-grossing film from Amazon MGM Studios at over $538 million (via Box Office Mojo), it’s been confirmed that the film will remain in cinemas for a while yet, delaying its streaming release.
The film, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name, sees Ryan Gosling portray a science teacher who ventures to space – where he meets an alien friend – in a bid to save humanity.
Due to this, Miller confirmed that the film’s stay in cinemas will be extended, writing on X: “We announced yesterday that MGM is extending the exclusive theatrical window for Project Hail Mary, so it won’t be on streaming anytime soon.
“This is a movie that needs to be seen on a big screen – and with a full return to IMAX screens for 1 week only starting this weekend, make plans to see it in a theatre now! Bring friends and loved ones. It’s an experience to share with others.”
Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, is in cinemas now.
