During the month of June, R2-KT is celebrating Star Wars Artists. Every day they will be highlighting a Star Wars artist, celebrating their work and raising awareness to ensure you only buy authentic art (and not any of the knock-off work available).
Here at Jedi News we are joining R2-KT in supporting our Star Wars artists! Here are the first two artists and we will be sharing links daily during June.
June 1st — Tsuneo Sanda
We kick it off with the man himself: Tsuneo Sanda, a legendary master who has illustrated countless prints, posters, comic covers, and other illustrations for Lucasfilm and in doing so captured the essence of the Star Wars magic with his keen eye for detail seen through a magical prism of color and light.
Tsuneo Sanda was born in Osaka, Japan. Artist Tsuneo Sanda was born in Osaka, Japan. He first came to Tokyo at age 23, and has been there ever since. He lives in a rural, residential town about 20km west of Tokyo with his wife, Sachicko, two sons, Kensaku and Sohei, and Vivian, their American Shorthair cat. Sanda first discovered his love for art at the age of 7. His early idols include Rembrandt, Rene Magritte, Paul Davis and Robert Peak.
A Star Wars fan since 1977’s A New Hope, he describes the film as “filled with dreams”. The saga continues to be “a part of my brain cells” even today. “The first few moments of each episode overwhelm me,” Sanda says, “exploding in my head like brilliant fireworks.”
Mr. Sanda is also a huge friend and supporter of Star Wars fan clubs and has partnered with them and R2-KT on numerous occasions to show his love for fans worldwide. And we love him too!
