Bryan Young, host of podcast Full of Sith, writing at the Official Site looks at the mirror cave scene in The Last Jedi where Rey is tested. He compares this to other scenes from the Star Wars movies. The site is careful to point out that Bryan’s comments are his own thoughts and not official.
Star Wars has always been circular, and that’s why it’s no surprise that there are similarities in the journeys between Anakin, Luke, and Rey as they each navigate the middle parts of their trilogies.
Rey’s trip inside the mirror cave strongly resembles Luke’s test on Dagobah against the spectre of Vader, and the imagery even goes back further to Anakin’s trip to the well of the dark side in the Mortis trilogy in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Each of these three experience visions from the Force and each of them are tailored to their own, unique destinies and problems.
